Nigerian Actress Ini Edo Apologises After Film Title Sparks Christian Backlash

Prominent Nigerian actress and filmmaker Ini Edo has issued a public apology to the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) following criticism over the title of her latest film, “A Very Dirty Christmas.”

The title drew sharp reactions from CAN and sections of the Christian community, who argued that it was offensive and misrepresented the religious and cultural significance of Christmas.

Speaking during an emotional Instagram Live broadcast, Edo addressed the concerns and expressed regret over the controversy generated by the film’s title.

She emphasised that both she and her production team are Christians, explaining that the title was intended as a creative expression rather than a slight against the Christian faith.

“If I had known the title ‘A Very Dirty Christmas’ would cause a problem, I would have changed it.

“CAN, I am sorry. I never meant to insult or disgrace Christians. I am a Christian too. We are all Christians on the team. We prayed and reverenced God”.

“I can’t believe the movie title is hurting people this much. This is me saying, I am sorry,” she said.
