Iran War: U.S. Forces Execute High-Risk Rescue of Downed Airman

U.S. special operations forces carried out a daring rescue mission to recover a downed airman deep inside Iranian territory after his fighter jet was shot down, according to U.S. officials.

The rescue followed the downing of a U.S. F-15E fighter jet by Iranian air defenses on Friday, leaving two crew members ejecting into hostile territory.

One crew member was recovered shortly after the incident, while the second identified as a senior officer remained missing, triggering an intense search-and-rescue operation.

According to The Washington Post, the stranded airman spent nearly two days evading capture in mountainous terrain as Iranian forces and even civilians reportedly searched for him.

The U.S. military then launched a high-risk operation involving special operations troops, aircraft, and intelligence support to extract him safely.

President Donald Trump described the mission as one of the most daring in U.S. military history, confirming that the airman who sustained injuries during ejection is now safe.

The operation reportedly involved heavy resistance, with U.S. aircraft coming under fire during the mission. Iranian officials claimed several aircraft were targeted during the rescue effort, highlighting the intensity of the confrontation.
