A group of lawyers have asked court to stop the swearing-in of the newly elected president, Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya. The Association of Legislative Drafting and Advocacy Practitioners (ALDRAP) filed at the Federal High Court in Abuja, citing alleged irregularities in the electronic election.
is seeking an injunction to restrain the NBA from swearing in Badejo-Okusanya or any other national officer until the irregularities case is resolved. The group also asked the court to maintain the current leadership status quo until a final ruling.
Badejo-Okusanya recently made history as the second female NBA president in the body’s 66-year history, while winning with 12,317 votes against rivals Lateef Akangbe and Olumuyiwa Akinboro. She is currently scheduled to be sworn-in on August 21, 2026.
ALDRAP is also pushing to have independent observer bodies like the Nigerian Law Society and Amnesty International to formally join the suit. The NBA however have not issued an official response to the legal challenge.
