INEC Sets October 9 for Nationwide PVC Collection Ahead of 2027 Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced October 9, 2026, as the date for the nationwide collection of newly issued Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, disclosed the date on Monday, September 28, during the Commission’s North-West Zonal Interactive Meeting and readiness assessment for the 2027 elections in Kaduna.

According to INEC, the PVCs are for eligible Nigerians who participated in the recently concluded Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise. The Commission recorded 10,772,421 new registrations across the three phases of the exercise, with the registrations subject to biometric verification. 

The Commission also said it is working to address operational and logistical challenges that could prevent eligible voters, particularly those in rural communities, from collecting their cards.

The announcement comes as INEC intensifies preparations for the 2027 general elections. The Commission has also directed its officials to strengthen election-readiness measures and ensure that eligible voters are able to access their PVCs without unnecessary obstacles. 

INEC has urged relevant stakeholders, including traditional institutions, to encourage eligible citizens to collect their PVCs when the exercise begins.
