Portugal, Switzerland, and Norway Made the Biggest Moves
Portugal is the only team to climb within the global top 10, moving two places from 7th to 5th.
The European champions moved above Brazil and Morocco, who slipped to 6th and 7th, respectively. Switzerland was also another notable riser, climbing two places to 12th.
Norway also recorded one of the biggest improvements among the top 50, rising twelve places to 19th.
Nigeria Drops to 30th
Nigeria’s Super Eagles suffered the biggest setback among the teams in the top 30, falling four places from 26th to 30th.
The Super Eagles entered the latest ranking period as Africa’s fourth-ranked team but have since dropped to 6th on the continent, behind Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, Algeria, and Côte d’Ivoire.
Nigeria’s slide followed a mixed run of results. Eric Chelle’s side opened the international window with a 2–1 victory over Madagascar before suffering a heavy 3–0 defeat to Guinea-Bissau in their AFCON 2027 qualifying campaign.
The Super Eagles then ended the window with a dramatic 3–3 draw against Russia on October 6, but the result was not enough to recover the points lost from the Guinea-Bissau defeat.
Africa’s Top-Ranked Teams
Morocco remain Africa’s highest-ranked nation at 7th in the world, followed by Senegal in 18th and Egypt in 25th.
Algeria is 28th, Côte d’Ivoire 29th, while Nigeria occupies 6th place in Africa at 30th globally.
The next FIFA Men’s World Ranking is scheduled for November 18, 2026.
