El-Rufai Faces Fresh Allegations as Financial Misconduct Trial Continues

Nasir El-Rufai faces fresh allegations after a DSS witness told a Kaduna court about an alleged $600,000 plan linked to an EFCC investigation.

A Department of State Services (DSS) prosecution witness has alleged that former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai and some of his associates earmarked $600,000 to pay officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to frustrate an investigation. This allegation was made on October 13, 2026, during proceedings at the Kaduna State High Court.

The witness, Segun Kayode, a forensic investigator with the DSS, told the court that $500,000 was allegedly intended for EFCC officials, while another $100,000 was set aside for an intermediary. He said forensic audio recordings captured conversations relating to an investigation involving a company identified in court reports as Singularity.

The testimony has prompted an objection from El-Rufai’s lead counsel, Paul Erokoro, who argued that the defence had not received adequate notice of the witness and his evidence. The court ruled that the testimony could proceed because the witness had been subpoenaed, provided the defence was given an opportunity to cross-examine him.

The Kaduna State High Court has decided to adjourn the proceedings until November 30 and December 1, 2026, for further cross-examination of the witness. El-Rufai remains under prosecution over alleged financial misconduct linked to his administration between 2015 and 2023, but the latest bribery-related claims remain allegations that have yet to be proven in court.
