Iran-Linked Hackers Breach FBI Director’s Email

Iran-linked hackers have reportedly gained access to the personal email account of FBI Director Kash Patel, leaking private photos and documents online in what officials say is a targeted cyberattack.

The group behind the breach, known as the Handala Hack Team, claimed responsibility on Friday, saying Patel had joined its list of “successfully hacked victims.”

The hackers published images and files allegedly taken from his inbox, including personal photographs and documents spanning several years.

U.S. authorities have confirmed the incident. The FBI said it is aware of “malicious actors targeting” the director’s private account.

The bureau emphasized that the breach involved historical, non-government data and that steps have been taken to mitigate any risks.

According to reports, many of the leaked materials date back more than a decade and relate to Patel’s personal life and earlier professional activities, rather than his current role as FBI chief.

Cybersecurity analysts say the Handala group is widely believed to be linked to Iranian intelligence and has carried out several recent attacks, including disruptions targeting U.S.-based companies. These operations are often aimed at embarrassing high-profile officials and demonstrating vulnerabilities in American systems.
