China Voices Regret Over Expiration of U.S.-Russia Nuclear Pact

China has expressed regret following the expiration of the New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (New START) between the United States and Russia.

Speaking at a routine press briefing on Thursday, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said the treaty had been an important mechanism for preserving global strategic stability.

He said that the international community widely believed that the treaty’s expiration would have negative consequences for the global arms control framework and the international nuclear order.
