Vance Heads to Pakistan for High-Stakes Iran Talks

U.S. Vice President JD Vance has signaled cautious optimism ahead of crucial diplomatic talks with Iran, even as he issued a firm warning to Tehran not to undermine the process.

Speaking before departing for Islamabad, Pakistan, where he will lead the American delegation, Vance said he expects “constructive and positive negotiations” with Iranian officials.

However, he made it clear that Washington would not tolerate delays or tactics aimed at derailing progress.

“As the president ‌of the United States said, if the Iranians are willing to negotiate in good faith, we’re certainly willing to extend the open hand,” Vance said. “If they’re going to try to play us, then they’re going to find the negotiating team is not that receptive,” underscoring the United States’ hardline stance going into the negotiations.

The upcoming talks are part of a broader international effort to stabilize tensions following a fragile ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran. The negotiations, hosted by Pakistan, are considered one of the most significant diplomatic engagements between both nations in recent years.
