Iran Opens Strait of Hormuz to Commercial Ships During Lebanon Ceasefire

Iran has announced that the Strait of Hormuz will remain fully open to commercial shipping for the duration of the ongoing ceasefire linked to the Israel–Lebanon conflict, in a move aimed at easing regional tensions and stabilising global trade routes.

Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said the decision aligns with the temporary truce in Lebanon, stressing that “the passage for all commercial vessels… is declared completely open” throughout the ceasefire period.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most critical shipping lanes, handling roughly a fifth of global oil supply. Its closure in recent weeks had disrupted maritime traffic and raised fears of a global energy shock.

The announcement marks a significant shift after earlier restrictions, when shipping traffic through the strait was either halted or tightly controlled amid escalating military tensions involving Iran, Israel, and Hezbollah.
