Man United Stage Stunning Comeback to Beat Roma 3-2

Manchester United produced a remarkable second-half comeback to defeat AS Roma 3-2 at Old Trafford on Tuesday night, ending a nine-match winless run and giving under-pressure manager Michael Carrick a much-needed victory.

United looked set for another disappointing result after Roma raced into a two-goal lead within the opening 17 minutes.

Matías Soulé opened the scoring in the 11th minute before Donyell Malen converted a penalty six minutes later following a handball by Ayden Heaven.

The first half was another worrying display from United, who struggled defensively, misplaced passes and allowed Roma to exploit spaces behind their defence.

The frustration among home supporters was evident, with some fans staging a protest against the club’s ownership.

However, the second half told a completely different story. United returned with greater attacking intensity, improved their pressing and began to push Roma deeper into their own half. Kobbie Mainoo also provided greater composure in midfield, while the introduction of substitute Shea Lacey later proved decisive.

Bruno Fernandes gave United a lifeline in the 58th minute, converting a retaken penalty after his initial effort was saved due to Roma players encroaching into the penalty area.

The equaliser arrived in the 83rd minute when Matheus Cunha capitalised on a defensive mistake to finish from close range.

Just three minutes later, the Brazilian completed the turnaround with a powerful strike at the near post after receiving a pass from substitute Shea Lacey.

United’s improvement was not just about individual brilliance. They began keeping possession higher up the pitch, applying sustained pressure and forcing Roma into defensive errors.
