The Nigerian Army troops were said to rescue 27 kidnap victims and stopped what could have been one of the year’s biggest mass abductions in Sokoto and Zamfara states. Operation FANSAN YAMMA soldiers intervened in time after armed terrorists blocked the Gummi-Sokoto highway with attempt to seize commuters in broad daylight.
Following a distress call from a commuter, Combat Team 12 arrived to engage and pursue the attackers, rescuing 11 people and recovering a motorcycle in the process. In a separate operation days earlier, an Army troops stormed Wanke and Kaura communities in Sokoto’s Shagari area after an intelligence pointed to terrorist activity, forcing the attackers to flee.
Elsewhere in Sokoto, 10 kidnap victims managed to escape their captors near Badanma community with help from the Sokoto State Community Guard Corps. Across the two-day operation, security forces also recovered livestock and multiple motorcycles abandoned by fleeing criminals.
All 27 rescued victims have been reunited with their families. The military has credited the quick response to residents providing credible intelligence, while also urging communities to keep cooperating as offensives continue across the North-west.
