Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro Max is shaping up to be one of the biggest hardware refreshes in years, but reports suggest the popular iPhone Upgrade Program that made it affordable might not survive for long. The iPhones are expected to launch in September, alongside troubling news for loyal Apple customers.
Leaked details point to 12 major upgrades, including a smaller Dynamic Island, a first-ever variable aperture camera, and a larger battery, up to 5,425 mAh in the US eSIM version. The new A20 Pro chip, built on a 2nm process, is also expected to boost performance and the phone AI features significantly.
At the same time, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that Apple is preparing to wind down its iPhone Upgrade Program, the financing plan that lets users trade in for a new iPhone every 12 months. Various speculations suggests Apple may replace it with a lease-style “Apple Upgrade” program instead, a shift that has already frustrated some of the company’s most loyal customers online.
