Osun Election Tension: ADC Blames Tinubu for Fadahunsi’s ‘Kill Accord’ Comment

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has blamed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the controversial remarks attributed to Senator Francis Fadahunsi ahead of Saturday’s Osun State governorship election.

ADC National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, said Fadahunsi may have been emboldened by what he described as the President’s recent political rhetoric, particularly Tinubu’s reported assertion that “all is fair in politics.”

Speaking on Arise News, Abdullahi said he did not want to blame Fadahunsi for the remarks, arguing that the senator could have interpreted the President’s comments as giving political actors latitude to do whatever was necessary to secure victory.

“I don’t want to blame Senator Fadahunsi. I blame President Bola Tinubu. He got his imprimatur for what he said from President Bola Tinubu,” Abdullahi said.

Fadahunsi, who represents Osun East Senatorial District in the Senate, came under criticism after a viral video appeared to show him telling supporters to “kill any Accord member” during a protest at the palace of the Owa Obokun of Ijesaland in Ilesa.

The senator, however, has denied calling for the physical killing of Accord Party members. He told journalists after being questioned by the Osun State Police Command that his statement had been misunderstood or mistranslated from Yoruba.

According to Fadahunsi, what he meant was that APC supporters should “kill Accord Party in Osun with their votes.” He was questioned by the police for more than two hours on Wednesday before being released.
