Barcelona made sure to make a statement at the start of their La Liga defense campaign with a 5-0 demolition of Elche at the Martínez Valero on Sunday.
Raphinha scored twice, while Fermín López grabbed a brace, and Karim Adeyemi made sure to open his competitive Barcelona account as Hansi Flick’s side produced an emphatic attacking display. The result gives the defending champions an ideal start to their campaign, although the night was soured by Gavi leaving the pitch with a knee problem.
Raphinha opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 14th minute before Karim Adeyemi doubled Barcelona’s advantage shortly before half-time. The Brazilian then added his second in the 67th minute, showing why he remain an important part of Flick’s attack.
Fermín took over from there, scoring in the 71st and 79th minutes respectively to complete the five-goal victory. Barcelona’s substitutes also made an impact, with Anthony Gordon providing two assists shortly after coming on.
