2027: Opposition Must Unite to Defeat Tinubu — Duke

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Donald Duke, has called on opposition parties to put aside personal ambitions and unite ahead of the 2027 general election, warning that President Bola Tinubu is not an opponent they can afford to underestimate.

Duke described Tinubu as a formidable political operator with significant institutional and political advantages as the incumbent, arguing that a fragmented opposition could make it easier for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to retain power.

The former Cross River State governor said the opposition must build a broad coalition and present a coordinated challenge rather than allow individual presidential ambitions to divide its votes.

His call comes amid ongoing efforts by opposition figures to form a common political front ahead of 2027. Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Duke and other opposition leaders have been involved in consultations facilitated by the G-100, while the PRP has confirmed Duke’s participation in an opposition summit scheduled for August 31 in Abuja.

Duke was formally cleared by the PRP as its presidential candidate in June, with the party announcing that it would field 420 candidates across elective positions in the 2027 elections.

The developing alliance talks are expected to determine whether Nigeria’s opposition can overcome its longstanding divisions and present a unified alternative to the APC in 2027.
