Manchester City have completed a sensational deadline-day move for Enzo Fernandez, reaching an agreement with Chelsea reportedly for a fee of more than £125 million.
Fabrizio Romano confirmed the deal, reporting that Fernandez is set for his medical at Manchester City. He also revealed that the Argentina international only wanted to join Enzo Maresca’s side.
This blockbuster transfer brings an end to a saga, with Chelsea eventually approving the sale after lengthy negotiations.
Why Manchester City Wanted Enzo Fernandez
Fernandez gives Maresca another star option in midfield, bringing his passing range, ball progression and ability to operate in different midfield roles. His experience with Argentina and Chelsea also means Man City are acquiring a player already used to competing at the highest level.
For Chelsea, the deal represents a significant financial return on a midfielder they signed from Benfica for around £107 million in 2023.
Fernandez’s move also adds another major transfer to an already dramatic deadline day, with the midfielder already set to begin a new chapter at Manchester City.
