Donald Duke: Tinubu Is a Formidable Politician, But Governance Is His Weakness

Former Cross River State Governor and 2027 presidential candidate of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Donald Duke, has praised President Bola Tinubu’s political strength while delivering a sharp criticism of his performance in government.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Duke described Tinubu as a “formidable politician”, but said his major concern was the President’s approach to governance, which he described as weak.

Duke argued that the economic difficulties facing Nigerians have contributed to growing disillusionment with the administration, saying that hope has turned into despair for many citizens.

He also warned that Nigeria could continue to face worsening challenges if the government maintains its current trajectory, although he maintained that the situation could still be repaired.

The PRP candidate further said Tinubu remains a strong and determined politician, but stressed that political strength does not necessarily translate into effective governance.

His comments come as opposition politicians intensify preparations for the 2027 presidential election, with Duke also calling for opposition parties to unite behind a candidate capable of challenging Tinubu.
