Wike to Lead Tinubu’s 2027 Campaign in FCT, Rivers

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has announced plans to inaugurate and personally lead campaign teams for President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid in the Federal Capital Territory and Rivers State.

Wike made the announcement on Friday, September 25, 2026, while speaking with journalists after inspecting the ongoing Phase II construction of the Kuje-Gwagwalada road dualisation project in Abuja.

The former Rivers State governor said supporters of President Tinubu from different political platforms had already begun putting their political structures in place ahead of the 2027 elections.

“The ruling All Progressives Congress, I believe, is putting itself together for an aggressive campaign. For us who are supporting Mr President from different political platforms, we have put our machinery ready to fully kickstart,” Wike said.

He added that he would soon inaugurate the campaign teams for Tinubu in both the FCT and Rivers State, which he would personally lead.

Wike, who remains a member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party while serving in the APC-led federal government, has emerged as one of the prominent figures mobilising support for Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

His planned role comes amid ongoing political discussions over the structure of the President’s re-election campaign.

The FCT minister also linked the administration’s infrastructure projects in Abuja to his campaign strategy, arguing that visible development would influence how residents assess the government.

“This is governance, and this is what people are expecting. It will translate directly into actual votes,” he said, according to reports of his remarks.

Wike further said the political structures supporting Tinubu were ready to begin an “aggressive campaign” and expressed confidence in the mobilisation already taking place.
