Makinde Accuses APC of Weakening Opposition Ahead of 2027 Elections

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of attempting to weaken opposition parties ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, as fresh disagreements emerge within the political platform associated with his presidential ambition.
According to a report, Makinde made the allegation on Tuesday during a South-South town hall meeting in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
He argued that opposition parties must be able to unite and protect the mandates given to them by voters.
Makinde claimed that the political landscape in the South-South had changed following the 2023 presidential election, alleging that the APC had worked to limit the influence of rival parties in the region.
He called on voters to reconsider the political direction of their states ahead of the next election.
The governor’s remarks come at a time when opposition figures are discussing possible alliances and the selection of a common presidential candidate to challenge President Bola Tinubu in 2027.
However, disagreements over who should lead such a coalition have complicated efforts to build a united opposition.
