Erik ten Hag Warns Manchester United Relegation Is Possible

Erik ten Hag says Manchester United could face Premier League relegation after a poor start to the 2026/27 season.

Former Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has warned that the club could face relegation from the Premier League following its poor start to the 2026/27 season. Speaking in an interview with ESPN, he said relegation was “certainly possible” because of the competitiveness of the league. This comments came after United’s 2-0 defeat to Chelsea on Saturday, which left them 17th in the table with seven points from nine matches.

Ten Hag also explained that teams can quickly fall into a difficult situation when poor results continue, making it very challenging to recover. United have struggled for consistency this season, with their position close to the relegation zone raising concerns among supporters. The former manager suggested that the club’s current difficulties highlight the importance of strong leadership, squad quality and stability.

The 56-year-old, who was dismissed by United in October 2024, also defended his record at Old Trafford, pointing to the League Cup and FA Cup trophies won during his time in charge. He is currently working as technical director at Dutch club FC Twente.
