Adebayo Vows to Cut Petrol, Cooking Gas and Jet Fuel to N200/Litre If Elected

Adebayo Vows to Cut Petrol, Cooking Gas and Jet Fuel to N200/Litre If Elected

Presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Prince Adewole Adebayo, has pledged to significantly reduce the cost of petroleum products if elected president in the 2027 general election.

Adebayo said his administration would target a price of N200 per litre for petrol, cooking gas and aviation fuel (Jet A1), arguing that Nigeria’s domestic refining capacity could be leveraged to make energy products more affordable.

Speaking on his economic plans, Adebayo criticised the continued reliance on imported petroleum products and argued that Nigeria should maximise its crude oil resources and domestic refineries to lower production and distribution costs.

He has previously advocated using crude allocated for domestic consumption to produce petrol, diesel, gas and aviation fuel locally, saying this would reduce the additional costs associated with importing refined products.

Adebayo emerged as the SDP’s 2027 presidential candidate at the party’s convention in Bauchi in May 2026. His campaign has centred on economic relief, improved security, employment, stronger institutions and policies aimed at reducing poverty.

His latest promise comes as energy costs remain a major issue in Nigeria’s economic and political discourse ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
