All pupils and teachers abducted by bandits in Oyo State have been rescued after 56 days in captivity. The release was confirmed by the presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga on the evening of July 10.
The victims were taken into captivity on May 15, when bandits simultaneously raided Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Community High School, and L.A. Primary School in the Oriire area. The Nigerian Defence Headquarters identified the attackers as displaced Boko Haram fighters who have moved south.
Their release happened after weeks of combined efforts from the Nigerian Army, SSS, police, and other security agencies. Officials say eight kidnappers were arrested during the rescue, while others were neutralised, and no ransom was involved.
