Carlos Alcaraz Reaches Tokyo Quarter-Finals After Tiebreak Scare

Carlos Alcaraz survived a big scare against Matteo Arnaldi to reach the quarter-finals of the Japan Open in Tokyo on Saturday. The defending champion defeated the Italian 7-6(6), 6-1 in a match that lasted one hour and 45 minutes.

Alcaraz looked very close to losing the opening set after falling 2-6 behind in the tiebreak, leaving Arnaldi with four set points. However, the former world No. 1 produced six consecutive points to turn the tiebreak around and take the set 8-6.

Alcaraz now set to face Denis Shapovalov in the quarter-finals on Sunday. Shapovalov reached the last eight after beating Alejandro Tabilo 7-5, 3-6, 6-4, setting up another test for Alcaraz as he continues his defence of the Tokyo title.
