Gov. Sanwo-Olu visits Lagos Flooding Victims in Eti-Osa

The latest lagos flooding has unfortunately displaced residents across several Eti-Osa communities and environs, promoting the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to visit affected areas on Wednesday. Joined by Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat and other officials, he waded through floodwaters to assess the damage done by the flood.
The team spent over six hours inspecting the damage done by flood in Eti-Osa. The damage done made the flood made the residents resort to using canoes for movement and transportation.
The Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, explained that the recent downpours produced water volume that exceeds the drainage system capacity in many areas. Gov. Sanwo-Olu also noted that illegal refuse dumping as well as unapproved developments along natural water channels have worsened the crisis.
The Governor has since approved of proper dredging and maintenance of 28 additional primary drainage channels across the state, while also promising both immediate relief and long-term solutions as Lagos continues battling its rainy season.
