Helicopter Crashes Near Naval Base in Ondo, Casualty Figures Unknown

A helicopter has crashed in Igbokoda, headquarters of Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State, sparking panic in the coastal community on Monday, October 5, 2026.

The incident reportedly occurred in a swampy area opposite the Naval Base in Igbokoda. Ilaje Local Government Chairman, Maurice Oripelaye, confirmed the crash, saying the aircraft was burnt to rubble and military equipment was found at the scene.

However, he said authorities had yet to establish how many people were aboard the helicopter.

Reports of the crash began circulating earlier on Monday, with residents reportedly moving towards the area as authorities worked to secure the scene and establish what happened.
