Iran Opens Hormuz to 10 Tankers, Trump Describes Move as ‘Present’

U.S. President Donald Trump said on Thursday that Iran permitted the passage of 10 oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz, describing the move as a sign of goodwill amid ongoing diplomatic contacts.

Speaking during a Cabinet meeting at the White House, Trump explained that the development was the same gesture he had earlier referred to as a “present” from Tehran. 

He suggested the decision to allow the vessels through the strategic waterway could indicate a willingness by Iran to ease tensions and engage in negotiations.

“They ​said, to show you the fact that we’re ⁠real and solid and we’re there, we’re going ​to let you have eight boats of oil, eight ​boats, eight big boats of oil,” Trump said. “I guess they were right, and they were real, and I think they ​were Pakistani-flagged… It ended up being 10 boats.”
