Israel Announces Plan to Reopen Rafah Crossing for Civilian Evacuation to Egypt

Israel has disclosed that the Rafah border crossing which is a vital gateway linking Gaza to Egypt will soon be reopened to enable civilians to leave the war-torn territory.

In a statement posted on X, the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories, responsible for facilitating humanitarian access into Gaza, said the crossing will open “in the coming days exclusively for the exit of residents from the Gaza Strip to Egypt.”

Residents cleared by Israel to leave will cross through Rafah under a mechanism coordinated with Egypt and supervised by the European Union mission, similar to the procedure used in January 2025, the office said.

The move is being carried out “in accordance with the ceasefire agreement and a directive of the political echelon,” according to the office.
