Man United 5-2 Ipswich: Bruno Hat-Trick Lights Up Rainy Old Trafford

Manchester United secured their first Premier League win of the season with a thrilling 5-2 victory over Ipswich Town as it rains at Old Trafford.

Their talisman, Bruno Fernandes was the main man of the afternoon, scoring a hat-trick including a well-taken penalty as United recovered from a shaky start to eventually run riot against the visitors.

Ipswich stunned the home crowd after taking the lead through Leif Davis in the 29th minute after United struggled to deal with the visitors’ attack. Man United, however, made sure to respond before half-time when Fernandes capitalised on an Ipswich mistake to level the score in the 40th minute. The momentum completely shifted after the break.

Manchester United went ahead when Harry Maguire’s effort took a deflection off Ipswich defender Jacob Greaves and found the net, before Fernandes converted a penalty won by Matheus Cumha, to put the hosts 3-1 ahead. Bruno Fernandes then completed his hat-trick, finishing from close range after Ipswich failed to properly clear another United attack. Ipswich refused to call it a day by pulling another goal back through Chuba Akpom, exposing another defensive lapse from United to make it 5-2.

The result was particularly important for Manchester United and it’s fans after their opening-day defeat to Hull City, but the two goals conceded will still give Michael Carrick something to think about. The victory also means United have scored five goals in a Premier League match again, following their 5-2 win over Tottenham in February 2026.

For now, the biggest talking point at Old Trafford is Fernandes, whose three goals helped turn a difficult, rain-filled afternoon into a convincing first win of the campaign.
