Security Operatives Confront Osun Lawmaker Over Gathering of Voters in Ikire
Security operatives on Saturday confronted a member of the Osun State House of Assembly, Abiola Ibrahim, after a large group of intending voters were found at a private residence in Ikire, Irewole Local Government Area of the state.
The incident occurred early Saturday as voting commenced in the Osun State governorship election.
A viral video from the scene showed uniformed security personnel questioning the lawmaker over the presence of the group at the residence, which Ibrahim reportedly identified as belonging to his late father, Raji Ibrahim.
The individuals were seen gathered inside the residence as security operatives conducted questioning.
Ibrahim, who is a member of the Accord Party, was also seen holding Permanent Voter Cards belonging to some of the individuals.
Responding to questions from the security personnel, the lawmaker reportedly said, “Voting is their choice. I’m not their agent.”
At the time of reporting, there was no independent confirmation establishing that the individuals were “imported voters” or that they had committed an electoral offence.
Further clarification from the security agencies or relevant electoral authorities would be required to establish the circumstances surrounding their presence at the residence.
