Brighton 3-0 Arsenal: Player Ratings After Shock Defeat

Premier League champions suffered their first Premier League defeat of the season after Brighton produced a breathtaking 3-0 victory at the Amex Stadium. Pascal Groß and Charalampos Kostoulas put Brighton two goals ahead before Chema Andrés added a third minute into the second half.

The Gunners had over 60% possession but managed just 2 shots on target, while Brighton’s pressing repeatedly exposed Arsenal’s defensive problems. Here are our Arsenal player ratings from the defeat.

Arsenal Player Ratings vs Brighton

David Raya — 5/10

Raya looked uncomfortable with the ball at his feet and could have done better on Brighton’s long-range goals. He did, however, make a good late save to prevent Matt O’Riley from adding a in the last 10 minutes.

Jurrien Timber — 5/10

Making his 1st Premier League start since March, Timber looked quite rusty. He struggled to provide Arsenal with his usual influence down the right.

Ezri Konsa — 5/10

Ezri Konsa had a difficult afternoon as Brighton’s movement and pressing repeatedly opened spaces around Arsenal’s defence. He never looked completely comfortable dealing with the Brighton’s attacking transitions.

Gabriel Magalhães — 4/10

A very poor afternoon for Gabriel. He backed away from Kostoulas before the 2nd goal and was beaten by Chema Andrés for Brighton’s third, while Brighton also found space around him on several occasions.

Riccardo Calafiori — 5/10

Calafiori tried to push forward like he always do but offered little defensively as Brighton repeatedly attacked Arsenal’s left side. He struggled to match the intensity of the hosts.

Bruno Guimarães — 4/10

Guimarães endured a difficult first Premier League start for Arsenal. Brighton’s pressure made it hard for him to control the midfield, and he was replaced after 15 minutes into the second half.

Declan Rice — 6/10

He was one of Arsenal’s more composed players despite the poor team performance. Rice completed 50 of 56 passes and produced several important defensive interventions, although he could not prevent Brighton from taking control.

Martin Ødegaard — 5/10

Ødegaard showed flashes of creativity but still struggled to influence the game consistently. Brighton’s compact midfield left him with little room to dictate Arsenal’s attack.

Bukayo Saka — 5/10

Saka had a chance to bring Arsenal back into the game shortly before Brighton scored their second, but Bart Verbruggen brilliantly saved his effort. He created moments but was unable to produce the decisive contribution Arsenal needed.

Christos Tzolis — 5/10

Tzolis worked hard but found it difficult to make any impact against a Brighton side that defended with discipline. His attacking involvement was limited.

Kai Havertz — 4/10

Havertz struggled to provide a focal point for Arsenal and missed one of the team’s clearest opportunities for arsenal in the game. With Arsenal chasing the game, he needed to be more clinical.

Overall, Declan Rice was Arsenal’s strongest performer on a difficult afternoon. Brighton’s high press, long-range finishing and set-piece threat exposed weaknesses Arsenal had not shown during their perfect start to the campaign.
