Tinubu Nominates Retired General Christopher Musa to Lead Defence Ministry

Retired General Christopher Musa has been nominated by President Bola Tinubu as the new Minister of Defence..
Tinubu forwarded the nomination to Senate President Godswill Akpabio for legislative approval on Tuesday.
The announcement, released in Abuja by Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, comes barely a day after former Defence Minister Badaru Abubakar stepped down citing health-related concerns — a resignation the President accepted immediately.
General Musa, aged 58, previously served as Chief of Defence Staff from 2023 until his retirement in October. His military career includes several notable achievements, including receiving the prestigious Colin Powell Award for Soldiering in 2012.
In his communication to the Senate, President Tinubu expressed confidence that Musa’s experience and leadership will play a key role in reinforcing Nigeria’s defence strategy and overall security framework.
