Grammys 2026: Tyla Clinches Best African Music Performance

South African superstar Tyla has once again made history after winning the Best African Music Performance award at the 68th Grammy Awards, marking her second Grammy win.
The 24-year-old artiste secured the prestigious honour with her viral hit “Push 2 Start,” following her first win in 2024 for “Water,” which also claimed the award during the category’s debut year.
The ceremony took place on Sunday night at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, where Tyla emerged ahead of strong contenders including Burna Boy’s “Love,” Davido and Omah Lay’s “With You,” Ayra Starr and Wizkid’s “Gimme Dat,” and Eddy Kenzo & Mehran Matin’s “Hope & Love.”
With this win, Tyla continues to cement her place as one of Africa’s biggest global music exports.
In spite of high nominations across top categories, no Nigerian artiste returned home with a Grammy trophy in 2026 edition, marking one of the rare years for Africa’s most influential music nation.
Burna Boy also suffered a setback in the Best Global Music Album category, where his project, “No Sign of Weakness,” lost out to Brazilian legends Caetano Veloso and Maria Bethânia, whose collaborative live album, “Caetano e Bethânia Ao Vivo,” claimed the prize.
