Defence Minister Badaru Abubakar Steps Down Citing Health Concerns

Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, Badaru Abubakar, has tendered his resignation, ending his tenure with immediate effect.

In a letter dated December 1 and addressed to President Bola Tinubu, Abubakar disclosed that his decision was prompted by health-related issues requiring urgent attention.

Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga confirmed the development in a statement released on Monday in Abuja. President Tinubu has accepted the resignation and expressed gratitude to Abubakar for his contributions to national security.

The President is expected to forward the name of a new Defence Minister to the Senate before the end of the week.
