Tribute: Portugal Includes Diogo Jota’s Name In 2026 World Cup Squad List

Portugal have paid an emotional tribute to late forward Diogo Jota by symbolically including his name in their squad plans for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The head coach Roberto Martínez announced a special “plus one” place in the squad to honor Jota’s memory following the Liverpool star’s tragic death in a car accident last year.

Martínez described the former Wolverhampton Wanderers and Liverpool attacker as “strength and joy” for the national team, stressing that his legacy will continue to inspire the squad throughout the tournament. 

Portugal are expected to carry tributes for Jota as they prepare for the World Cup campaign in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
