Man United Blow 2-0 Lead, Crash Out of Carabao Cup

Manchester United suffered another painful night at Old Trafford on Wednesday after surrendering a two-goal lead to lose 3-2 to Brighton & Hove Albion and crash out of the Carabao Cup in the third round.

United looked firmly in control after teenager Shea Lacey opened the scoring in the eighth minute, before Mason Mount doubled the advantage just two minutes later. However, Brighton began their comeback in first-half stoppage time when Charalampos Kostoulas pulled one back.

Pascal Groß equalised for Brighton in the 65th minute, and Maxim De Cuyper completed the turnaround four minutes later to give the visitors a 3-2 victory. United brought on Bruno Fernandes and Matheus Cunha late on but could not find a response.

The defeat marked the first time in 50 years that Manchester United had lost at Old Trafford after taking a two-goal lead. The last such occasion was against Tottenham in 1976.

The result also piles further pressure on manager Michael Carrick, who admitted after the match that he takes responsibility for the collapse. Brighton, meanwhile, advanced to the fourth round of the competition.
