Aston Villa End Manchester City’s Perfect Start

Aston Villa handed Manchester City their first Premier League defeat of the season on Saturday, securing a 2–1 victory at Villa Park thanks to a decisive brace from Nicolas Jackson.

The result ended City’s perfect start to the league campaign after Enzo Maresca’s side had won their opening seven matches.

Villa, meanwhile, delivered an impressive performance to claim three important points in front of their home supporters.

Villa made a fast start, taking the lead in the sixth minute after a defensive error from Manchester City defender Marc Guéhi allowed John McGinn to set up Jackson. The striker took his opportunity well, finishing past Gianluigi Donnarumma to put the hosts ahead.

City responded after the break and found an equaliser in the 52nd minute. Erling Haaland rose to meet a cross from Iliman Ndiaye, heading the ball into the net to bring the visitors back into the contest.

However, Villa regained the advantage in the 60th minute. Substitute Ibrahim Mbaye delivered a low cross into the area, and Jackson finished first-time to score his second goal of the afternoon.

Despite City’s efforts to find another equaliser, Villa held on for the victory. Goalkeeper Zion Suzuki produced several important saves, while Ian Maatsen cleared a late Haaland header to protect the hosts’ lead
