FG Pays D’Tigress $100,000 Reward

The Federal Government has completed the payment of the presidential cash reward promised to members of Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, following their historic triumph at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket.

The National Sports Commission confirmed on Thursday that each player received the naira equivalent of $100,000, fulfilling the financial part of President Bola Tinubu’s pledge to the team.

The reward was announced after D’Tigress defeated Mali 78–64 in the final in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, to claim a record fifth consecutive AfroBasket title. The victory also took Nigeria’s total number of women’s AfroBasket championships to seven.

As part of the wider recognition, President Tinubu also approved $50,000 for the head coach and each member of the technical crew, while the players and officials were honoured with national awards and other incentives.

The 2025 triumph further secured Nigeria’s place at the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup, adding another milestone to D’Tigress’ remarkable run on the continent.

The latest payment means the Federal Government has now completed the cash component of the presidential reward promised to the champions.
