Iran Seizes Ships in Hormuz as Tensions Rise Over Trump’s Ongoing Naval Blockade

Iran has escalated tensions in the Strait of Hormuz by seizing at least two foreign cargo vessels, a move that further complicates fragile diplomatic efforts with the United States amid an ongoing maritime standoff.

According to multiple reports from outlets such as Reuters and The Guardian, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) intercepted and escorted the ships toward Iranian waters, claiming they had violated navigation rules or attempted to pass through the strategic waterway without proper authorization.

The incident comes shortly after the United States, under President Donald Trump, intensified enforcement of a naval blockade targeting Iranian ports.

The blockade – introduced in mid-April allows U.S. forces to intercept vessels linked to Iran, a policy Tehran has described as an act of war.

Iranian officials say the ship seizures were carried out in response to what they view as continued U.S. aggression at sea, including earlier actions where American forces seized an Iranian-flagged vessel accused of attempting to bypass the blockade.
