Macron Eyes Conference to Boost Lebanon

French President Emmanuel Macron has signaled readiness to convene an international conference aimed at reinforcing Lebanon’s military capabilities and supporting reconstruction efforts in the country’s devastated southern region.

Speaking after talks with Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides, Macron said the timing of the proposed conference would depend on Lebanon’s own assessment of when conditions are suitable.

The initiative is expected to mobilize additional European funding and deepen cooperation between Lebanon and the European Union.

The proposal comes amid renewed instability in southern Lebanon, where ongoing clashes and Israeli military activity have caused widespread destruction and displacement.

Recent reports indicate that parts of the south remain heavily affected by strikes and restricted access for civilians, highlighting the urgent need for reconstruction and security support.

Macron has consistently emphasized France’s commitment to Lebanon’s sovereignty and stability, including backing the Lebanese Armed Forces as a central pillar of national security.

Paris has already pledged increased military and humanitarian assistance, including equipment, logistics, and emergency relief supplies for displaced populations.
