Netherlands Approves Kanye West Concerts Despite Controversies

U.S. rapper Kanye West, now known as Ye, has been cleared to perform in the Netherlands next month after Dutch authorities concluded there are no legal grounds to deny him entry, despite widespread criticism over his past antisemitic remarks and controversial public statements.

The decision follows calls from Dutch lawmakers and several advocacy groups urging the government to block the artist from entering the country.

However, Dutch Migration Minister Bart van den Brink stated that authorities found no sufficient legal basis to impose an entry ban, stressing that restrictions can only be applied when there is a clear threat to public order or national security.

West is scheduled to perform two concerts at the GelreDome arena in Arnhem on June 6 and June 8.

The shows are expected to be his first European performances since 2014.

Local authorities in Arnhem have also confirmed that the events can proceed, noting that no formal requests for protests had been filed as of the government’s announcement.
