Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has ordered new military strikes on Beirut’s southern suburbs, marking a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict between Israel and the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah.
The targeted area, known as Dahiyeh, is widely regarded as Hezbollah’s main stronghold in the Lebanese capital.
According to a statement released by Netanyahu’s office, the attacks were authorized alongside Defense Minister Israel Katz in response to what Israel described as repeated Hezbollah violations of a ceasefire agreement and continued attacks on Israeli cities and civilians.
Israeli forces were instructed to strike what officials called “terrorist targets” within the district.
The latest development comes after days of intensified fighting in southern Lebanon. Israeli troops reportedly advanced deeper into Lebanese territory, including the capture of the historic Beaufort Castle, one of the deepest Israeli incursions into Lebanon in more than two decades.
Netanyahu has also signaled plans to expand military operations in areas previously controlled by Hezbollah.
