The United States strikes on the Islamic Republic of Iran continues into Sunday, following an attack that killed two American soldiers and left a third missing at a base in Jordan. The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) said the latest wave targeted Iranian coastal surveillance, air defense, and missile storage sites.
The strikes marks the complete collapse of the ceasefire reached between USA and Iran in June, with fighting now stretching across multiple fronts. Iran has retaliated by striking US-linked positions in Kuwait and Bahrain, triggering air raid sirens and a fire at a Kuwaiti power plant for a second straight day.
Iranian authorities claimed the latest US strikes has killed at over 50 people and injured more than 500, though Tehran has not disclosed overall military losses. Meanwhile, CENTCOM says the campaign has now hit close to 2,000 targets across Iran since the wider conflict began in February.
The United State Department has issued a new global travel advisory urging Americans to “exercise increased caution,” warning of possible flight disruptions and further attacks on diplomatic facilities. With 16 US personnel now killed since hostilities escalated, there is no clear sign of the fighting slowing down.
