Mali Defence Minister Sadio Camara Killed in Coordinated Military Attacks

Mali’s Defence Minister, General Sadio Camara, has been killed following a wave of coordinated attacks on military targets across the country, according to reports from credible international news outlets.

The killing was reported on Sunday, a day after heavily armed groups launched large-scale assaults on key military installations in the capital, Bamako, and other regions.

Sources indicate that Camara’s residence in the garrison town of Kati, home to one of Mali’s main army bases was among the targets during the attacks. 

The coordinated offensive, described as one of the largest in recent years, involved Islamist militants linked to al-Qaeda as well as Tuareg separatist fighters.
