Suspect in White House Correspondents’ Dinner Shooting Set for Court Appearance

The suspect accused of opening fire during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner is set to make his first court appearance as federal authorities move forward with serious charges.

The suspect, identified as Cole Tomas Allen, a 31-year-old from California, is expected to appear in federal court in Washington on Monday following the weekend security breach at the high-profile political event.

According to investigators, Allen allegedly forced his way past security checkpoints at the Washington Hilton where the dinner was being held and fired at least one shot, wounding a U.S. Secret Service agent. The agent, protected by a bullet-resistant vest, survived and has since been discharged from hospital.

Authorities say the suspect had traveled from California and booked a room at the hotel prior to the incident. He was reportedly armed with multiple weapons and was quickly subdued by security personnel before reaching the main ballroom, where senior officials including President Donald Trump were present.

Prosecutors are expected to file charges including assault on a federal officer and use of a firearm during a violent crime, with additional charges such as attempted assassination still under consideration.
