Russia has threatened to intensify strikes on Kyiv after Ukraine launched a massive wave of drone attacks across Russian territory. The attacks came during Russia’s final day of its parliamentary elections, with Moscow describing the assault as an attempt to disrupt the vote.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin described the drone attack as unprecedented and said it was intended to disrupt the elections, although Ukraine has not officially acknowledged responsibility for the strikes. Russia’s Defence Ministry said it had intercepted large numbers of drones and also reported Ukrainian cruise missile attacks.
Russia’s Defence Ministry said its forces would intensify strikes on Ukrainian military targets in response to the attack. The threat comes as both countries continue carrying out long-range drone and missile strikes against targets across each other’s territory.
The latest escalation also follows deadly Russian attacks in the Kyiv region, where Ukrainian authorities said 4 civilians, including 3 children, were killed in overnight drone strikes. The continuing exchange of attacks has pushed the Russia-Ukraine war back into the headlines as concerns over further escalation grow.
