Court Nullifies Atiku’s ADC Presidential Ticket

A major political development has emerged in Nigeria after a court on Thursday nullified former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s nomination as the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.
The ruling followed a legal challenge by Nafiu Bala Gombe, a former deputy national chairman of the party, who questioned the legitimacy of the ADC leadership and the processes that produced its current executives.
The court reportedly set aside the processes leading to the party’s leadership and Atiku’s emergence as its presidential candidate.
The development could create fresh uncertainty within the opposition party, particularly as political activities ahead of the 2027 elections continue to gather momentum.
Atiku secured the ADC presidential ticket in May, positioning himself for another attempt at the Nigerian presidency.
Reacting to the judgment, the ADC rejected the decision, describing it as politically motivated and indicating that it would challenge the ruling through an appeal.
The case is likely to become another major test for Nigeria’s opposition as preparations for the next presidential election intensify.
