A Dutch zookeeper has been confirmed dead after being attacked by a leopard at Beekse Bergen Safari Park in the Netherlands. The incident happened on Saturday, October 24, while the experienced animal keeper was inside an enclosure with two male Persian leopards. She suffered severe injuries to her head and neck and died in hospital on October 27, according to the safari park.

What Happened To The Dutch Zookeeper?

The attack occurred at the safari park in Hilvarenbeek, southern Netherlands. Reports say the keeper was able to alert colleagues using her walkie-talkie before being rescued and taken to hospital for emergency treatment. The park said she began working there at the age of 17 and had spent nearly 40 years at the facility.

The exact circumstances of the attack remain unclear. The enclosure had no cameras, and investigators have yet to establish whether one or both leopards attacked her or why she was inside the enclosure with the animals. The park has announced an independent investigation into the incident.

The fatal incident has raised questions about safety procedures when staff work around dangerous animals. Beekse Bergen has expressed condolences to the keeper’s family, friends and colleagues. The park also said it would provide a place for visitors to leave messages of condolence while the investigation continues. Authorities have not yet publicly established what led to the attack.
