Houthis Ban Israeli Shipping in Red Sea

Houthis Ban Israeli Shipping in Red Sea

Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi movement has declared a ban on Israeli maritime navigation in the Red Sea, escalating tensions in one of the world’s most important shipping corridors.

The announcement came as the conflict involving Iran and Israel continues to heighten concerns over security across the Middle East.

In a statement released on Monday, the Houthis said they had imposed a “total ban” on Israeli-linked shipping in the Red Sea and warned that further measures could follow if hostilities in the region continue to intensify.

The group also claimed responsibility for an attack on Israel, signaling a broader involvement in the ongoing regional conflict.

Maritime security analysts noted that the move is aimed primarily at vessels believed to be connected to Israel rather than all commercial shipping. However, industry experts warn that the threat could increase risks for international trade and energy markets, particularly as the Red Sea remains a critical route linking Europe and Asia through the Suez Canal.
