Charismatic Bishops Endorse Tinubu for 2027

The Charismatic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) has declared its support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bid for a second term in the 2027 presidential election.

The endorsement was announced on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, by the conference’s President-General, Archbishop Leonard Bature Kawas, during the CBCN’s 2026 Synod in Abuja.

Kawas said the decision followed the group’s assessment of Tinubu’s administration, particularly his appointments and engagement with Christian leaders. He argued that the government had demonstrated what he described as religious and regional balance.

The bishop also praised the administration’s efforts on national development and security, while reaffirming the conference’s commitment to supporting the government through prayers and advocacy.

According to Kawas, the bishops would continue to stand with Tinubu ahead of the 2027 election, formally declaring the conference’s endorsement of his re-election bid.

The synod was attended by senior government officials, including Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, and Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris.

The CBCN had previously expressed support for the Tinubu administration. In November 2025, the Federal Government said the group had passed a vote of confidence in the administration and pledged continued prayers and support in tackling insecurity.

The latest endorsement adds the CBCN to the growing list of groups publicly taking positions ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election.
